Getting Started

TheSpringBox is a widget engine that allows you to run SpringWidgets, Flash based widgets, on both the desktop AND the web. The documentation in this MXP will show you how to create your own widgets using nothing but Flash by leveraging your programing skills and an API designed to allow your .swf to tap into the powerful features that this widget engine offers.

To create your first widget, first open one of the templates that were packaged with this extension.

To open a template:

  1. Select File>New...
  2. Select the Templates Tab in the Dialog Window.
  3. Select any template in SpringWidgets category.
  4. Click OK

Once you've added some content, publish your .swf into the My SpringWidgets directory in My Documents (typically C:\Documents and Settings\{user}\My Documents\My SpringWidgets\).

To launch your widget:
  1. Launch TheSpringBox if it is not running already.
  2. Open the LaunchPad by Left-clicking on the green tray icon of TheSpringBox.
  3. Click the orange develompment icon that corresponds with your widget to launch it.
